Too Much Sugar in ANOREXIA RECOVERY?

Sugar, sugar and more sugar. We all know it is bad for us. But what if we crave it so much? Or what if we are forced to eat it as a part of our recovery plan or meal plan or inpatient food list?

In eating disorder recovery, sufferers often have to overcome fear foods and learn to eat "bad foods" alongside the "good foods." Anorexia is a restrictive disorder -- one where food is not only limited, but where the only food even "allowed" to enter the body is food that is healthy and nourishing. But what if it doesn't have to be? What if I'm here to tell you junk food is not at all so bad for you?

Did you go and get the cake after watching this video? How did it feel?

Maybe it felt good to finally eat sufficiently and listen to your cravings, and maybe you felt satisfied. Or maybe you felt so guilty you were unable to enjoy it. If so, give it time.

A third possibility is that you had the food... and now can't stop craving it! The ED's worst nightmare. If this is the case, however, it is your body telling you that you simply need more. Especially if your cravings are for high-fat high-sugar foods, maybe your body simply needs more energy to thrive, and it's crucial to listen to that.

This, too, passes. I promise.
